TOP STORIES OF THE WEEK: UZI might’ve deleted all of his music, J Cole announced new album, Rae Sremmurd possibly splitting up, more

It’s the second week (#2) of this year and we are already seeing a lot of ups & down in the music industry, Here’s a breakdown of few major stories of this week that you should know about

Lil Uzi Vert announcing his retirement

Yesterday Lil Uzi Vert seemingly announced that he’s done with music, In an Instagram story post uzi wrote “I wanna take the time out to say I thank each and every one of my supporters but I’m done with music, I deleted everything. I wanna be normal”

Here’s my take on this,

  • It can be a publicity stunt to get people talking because he’s about to release his upcoming album Eternal Atake. But, Uzi is a weird guy (In a good way) and it doesn’t seems like he need any publicity for his work since we all have been waiting for the album for months.
  • It’s not gonna be a surprise if he actually quits because Uzi openly talked about his trouble with his record deal, How young artist should not sign to another artist since he’s signed to DJ Drama. In a recent live video, he admitted he had to leak “New Patek” because the label won’t let him release anything.

J.Cole announces new compilation album titled “Revenge of the Dreamers III”

Dreamville Records is aiming big for 2019, The Dreamville team has combined some of the most talented names in the game for crafting Revenge Of The Dreamers 3, a compilation album due to arrive later this year. As of right now it’s been confirmed that 94 artists were invited to record the upcoming album in Atlanta.

Rae Sremmurd possibly splitting up

Yesterday Slim Jxmmi, one half of the rap duo Rae Sremmurd made a series of tweets and it seems like the duo is splitting up, the tweets are as follow:

“I’m not Rae Sremmurd I’m slim jxmmi and ima sink or swim by myself.”

“I bought my mamma a million dollar crib off MY work”

“Not SremmLife”

“Y’all won it’s a wrap”

Y’all still got ya mans swae y’all a be skraight”

– Slim Jxmmi via Twiter

Slim Jxmmi also announced his upcoming solo project via Instagram

The whole thing might be true because in a Fader (2016) interview Jxmmi stated that “the industry is trying to split them up and that they wouldn’t let that happen

Missy Elliott becomes first female hip-hop artist (and third hip hop artist) inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame

For nearly 50 years, the Songwriters Hall of Fame has recognized the achievements of the people who put words and music together. Yesterday Hall revealed the six artists of the 2019 class. One of them is Missy Elliott, the first female hip-hop artist to be inducted.

The other five songwriters are: Dallas Austin, Tom T. Hall, John Prine, Jack Tempchin and Yusuf (Cat Stevens).

In addition to becoming the first female hip-hop artist, Missy Elliott’s induction also makes her just the third rapper to be included in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. (Jay Z and Jermaine Dupri are the other two.)

Elliott is being inducted not only for her own songs, but songs she wrote for other artists like Aaliyah (“One in a Million”), Ciara (“1 2 Step”) and Mya (“My Love Is Like Whoa”).

The Grammy-winning emcee has written for Beyoncé, Janet Jackson and Mary J. Blige, in addition to having her own influential solo career.

Halsey’s ‘Without Me’ Tops Billboard Hot 100, Becoming Her First No. 1 as a Lead Artist

Halsey scores her first No. 1 on the Hot 100 as a lead artist (and second overall), as “Without Me” rises 2-1. The song dethrones Ariana Grande‘s “Thank U, Next,” which spent seven nonconsecutive weeks atop the Hot 100.

Kanye West reportedly pulled out of Coachella because the festival wouldn’t build him a huge dome stage

It’s been claimed the rapper was in talks to headline the California festival before stage disagreements arose,
Within 24 hours of West withdrawing from the festival, Ariana Grande had been secured as a replacement

Kanye West is yet to comment on the claims.
The 1975, Solange, Khalid, Janelle Monae, and Chvrches are also set to take to stages across Coachella’s site this year.
West last headlined the event in 2011.
